   « on evidence », or « spot » or « by prompt » ; but you would' be wrong in taking such words for what they mean according to dictionaries.
   The clause « on evidence », in fact; embodies the condition that the goods are sold according to their external appearance at the date of sale, the seller declining liability for their actual state on delivery (i j; « Spot» means that the goods are to be taken by the buyer at the place where they are lying at the moment when the sale is effected (2); « Prompts is the name for a peculiar kind of agreement concerning the delivery and payment of goods .sold (3). ;

   being used therein in the sense of «.starting», which is very distant from such as conveyed by the word « upset» if taken by itself (1).
   These and many others, which it would be too long to quote, but with which you will easily, almost unc^nciously, get acquainted during your daily exertions, no particular study being strictly required. One thing I should however advise you to do, in order to help your memory, and that would be to take careful note of any such technical terms as you come across with in your experience, thus preparing little by little a kind of technical dictionary of your own, which will often turn out of great use to you.
   A.  I thought there were dictionaries published from which one can gather all desirable explanations on commercial terminology.
   0.  There are in fact; but a dictionary, you know, can be used only as a book of reference, not aS a text, besides it must not cover a single branch, but the whole ground of commerce, much wider than what we require; so that, to read over long pages of a
