   M. I never did, because the nature of my business renders such risks very remote, but I share your opinion as to the advisability of such a measure, especially if we intend to enter some 'adventure in the export line. Do you think a five per cent ot the profits would suit the purpose?
   I. P. Yes, I believe it will do for this year, experience will teach us whether it shall have to be increased or reduced.
   M. Quite right I think we have now fixed all the leading points of a good partnership, so that my Notary (i) will find it easy to draw up a regular indenture (2), after the minute I have been drafting out of each single item agreed upon. What date do you wish we should appoint to execute (3) the agreement ?
   I. P. Any day will do for me, but the sooner the better; for I long to be settled and begin a new life Better arrange that with your Notary and let me know what you have decided.
   (1) Dicesi Notary public «Notaio pubblico» invece di Public Notary come vorrebbe la regola generale dell'aggettivo.
   (2) Indenture, Agreement, Contract, Covenant sono tutti sinonimi corrispondenti all'italiano «Contratto».
   (3) Nel linguaggio tecnico legale il verbo « to Execute » significa compiere ìe formalità volute perchè un atto sia completo, e perciò « firmare, stipulare ».

   M. So I will And now, my dear Bard you are my prisoner for the rest of the day. We must celebrate this first step with a family dinner and drink success to the new concern; my wife and children are waiting for us, you cannot refuse.
   I. P. Nor do I mean to, and feel grateful for your kind thought. What is your dinner time please?
   M. Seven o'clock sharp, but we expect you to be at our home half an hour in advance at least, to have a little chat before sitting down at table.
   I. P. I shall try to Good bye for the present then.
   M. Good bye.
