(3) Custom-house è l'edificio della dogana, perché le dogane diconsi « customs ». La frase « To enter and » clear a ship at the custom-house» corrisponde all'italiana «Spedire una nave in dogana», cioè fare le operazioni prescritte dalle leggi doganali di uno stato all' arrivo ed alla partenza di una nave.
(4) Fees « onorari », cioè compenso pecuniario di lavori.
